Marriott Hotel Ballroom
AMG was contracted to turn-key the asbestos abatement, demolition, and site grading at the San Diego Marriot Hotel to make way for a new and improved 62,000 SF Ballroom addition. The existing and outdated 58,000 SF Ballroom structure consisted of a 3-story concrete parking garage that supported an additional 2-story steel beam and roof system which all together stood 58′ tall. AMG mobilized multiple hydraulic and high-reach excavators equipped with shear and thumb attachments to safely bring the structure to the ground. Each step of the demolition process was planned, coordinated, reviewed, and executed resulting in a safe and successful razing of a high profile structure located along the busy Harbor Drive and adjacent to the highly sensitive San Diego harbor. AMG crushed and re-used approximately 48,000 SF of existing asphalt pavement as fill material underneath the new asphalt roads and achieved a combined project recycling rate in excess of 88%. AMG also over-excavated and re-compacted more than 130,000 SF for new building pads, asphalt pavement, curb, gutters, and hardscape to 95% compaction and set all finish grade using GPS technology for greater accuracy and efficiency.
